I learned to spin CD's on Numark CDN88s. I noticed that the smooth analog like cueing and pitch bending gave other CD djs alot of problems at first. But most of them liked it once they got used to it.

My 88's died at BM this year, so I just sprung for the rackmount denon d9000. They are rock solid cd units with alot of cool features, but I think the cuing and even more the jog wheel pitch bending is pitiful. The amount of pitch bend on the 88's was proportional to the speed at you turned the dial. If you suddenly stopped turning the dial, the pitch would return to nominal right away. The denons have this 1 second lag before they normalize. It's a fricking nightmare. The best example is if you spin the wheel real fast and then stop it suddenly. It takes more then a second before the pitch returns to normal. I dont understand how can be useful. I am seriously think about returning them.

I know the 9000 can accept software updates, but does anyone know if denon listens to its customers enough to care to make changes.

I think the numark feel of the jog wheel is far superior. I'll have another week and 1/2 to try to get used to it before I return them and exchange them for CDN95's

I've got a lot of digital audio, so I am really excited about incorporating all this non-vinyl music into my sets! The barebones Stanton C501 is cheap, and so far, is doing a fine job at what I need. Of course, I very much want 2 Pioneer CDJ1000MK2's, but must earn and extra 2K first.

Anyone else tried this new Stanton?

Also, does anyone suggest some websites for downloading, or SF Bay Area dealers who carry rare CD's (such as UK single imports).

1. CD players were made to mix. If you got yourself some good CD 'turntables' they were designed to mix music and have features that help you mix great. Even an occasional DJ like myself can sound awesome.

2. Easier access to music. Tons of stuff I can get free over the net, tons of music I can copy off friends stuff. Records can be more limited in the total range of what you can find. Records are more time consuming and you have to hunt stuff down and look through alot of stuff.

3. Sound. Records have a unique sound, but I prefer the clarity of cds. Much better sound quality at high db.
And as you might imagine, this completely sucks when I'm in the middle of a gig!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One thing I should mention:
