I've played on it, and wasn't impressed. The pitch is way too difficult to set, even with .05 precision, let alone .02. Jog wheel feels flimsy and cheap. The Start and Cue buttons don't give, so you don't really know whether you pressed it or not. Other than that, seems like a solid CD player...

I dunno... I didn't mind using those too much... But I am not a fan of the 1000's.... I do agree with the jog wheel, but the pitch wasn't any issue for me.

it was outdoors in the wind, so that may have had something to do with it. the pitch slider just seemed way loose.. every which way i'd move it, it still wouldn't be set to where i wanted it.

ok, so this topic is kind of old. but since i've owned a pair for almost 6 months now i figured i'd post my thoughts....

like dimitry said, the structure of the jog dial leaves a lot to be desired. why they didn't stick with the rubber dial from the 100 is beyond me. appearance-wise it looks slick, people love the blue light, hehehe, but it has a small degree of "give" to it where if you press down on it, it actually physically depresses on one side about 1/8" of an inch which gives it kind of a flimsy feel. also the texture on it is pretty slick, so if you're playing in cold weather or harsh conditions, you might have some problems spinning it. i guess you could always put a rubber cover or something on top of it.

all that being said, the response is actually really good, it's much more precise than the 100 jog dial, and has less of a delay than the 1000. once you get over the "give" you shouldn't have any problems fine tuning your mixes.

i find the pitch control comparable to other pioneer decks. it can be tough on .02% to get it to stick, but i find this to be true on the 1000's as well. having the .02% pitch control (vs. .1% on the 100's) makes a *huge* difference, you can really lock in a beat very precisely instead of having to ride the jog dial the whole mix like on the 100's.

the play/cue buttons are basically the same as the 1000's (plastic, not rubber like the 100's) minus the concentric lights. instead there's a small light in the middle of the button which serves the same function but can be a little harder to see. i have yet to have any problems with these or the search/seek buttons.

bonus features: there's a nice "emergency" feature where if you accidentally eject the CD, if you pop it back in right away it will start playing from the point where it was ejected. unlike the 100, it has real time cue/loop buttons which can come in handy in a pinch, like if you lose your cue point by accident towards the end of a song. also, the master tempo sounds much much better on these than on any previous pioneer deck (imo).

i havn't really used the mp3 playback feature much, so can't really comment on that. it should be noted that they will NOT play VBR files which is kind of frustrating.

overall, i think these are a big improvement over the cdj-100's, which have kind of become the de facto industry standard entry level CDJ. if you're deciding between these and the 100's, i would definately recommend these. between the 1000's and these, that's a tougher call. the 200's basically offer everything you need if you don't do any scratching, but i think a lot of dj's (understandably) prefer the larger heavier jog dial. but it seems like a lot of extra dough just for that...

i should also note that i've used these for several outdoor parties over the summer in pretty harsh conditions, and they have held up impeccably, going for 12 hours+ covered in dirt, sand, and grime.

and for the record, mr. dmtree here used my decks back in august and his mixing sounded fine ;-P

hehe, i've played on them a few times since - i like the blue lights, the master pitch, and excellent bpm counter for quick reference. even got used to the jog wheel platter. my biggest complaint is still the tightness of the pitch control. it might be because the decks i've played on are still very new, or because my fingers were frozen from the cold outdoors, but it's just so damn hard to move the pitch just one percentage point up or down for precise beatmatching. and yes, these pass the "can you use them while completely drunk" test.. all i'm saying is that with a few small improvements, they could be absolutely great.

"my biggest complaint is still the tightness of the pitch control"

i agree, but i have the same problem on all the pioneer decks i've used, even the 100's which only have 0.1% pitch adjust. i think they should just make the pitch fader a lot longer, i mean they have the space, can't understand why it's still relatively small.
